"Bonsai Tree" restaurant sushi chef Yoshiro "Yoshi" Yorimito, claims he is a Samurai warrior...tragically trapped in the Modern Age.
|Sushi chefs...beware the warrior within! |
Beheading a clutch of green onions with a lightning wrist motion with one hand, while simultaneously juggling a pair of razor sharp paring knives like a drunken geisha at the Gion Kobo theatre in Kyoto with the other, Yoshiro "Yoshi" Yorimito claims to be an ancient Samurai warrior...tragically trapped in the Modern Age.
"Hai!...I am frustrated, yes...this is true. I grow tired of dicing fish for fat businessmen! I am a man of noble birth!...HAI!"
Yoshi skillfully carved a rice-paper thin slice of live giant clam, speedily wrapping it in a seaweed slice and expertly shaping it like a veteran Cuban cigar roller.

"I am not mere Sushi chef! I am descendent of great Yorimito Shoguns from Isle of Honshu!...Hai!...BONZAI!!"
Almost upon cue, a stern-expressioned elderly Japanese man in a gray Armani suit, frowning like a Kimakura War-Lord, approached Yoshi, urgently pulling him to the side.
"Yoshi! I pay you to make Sushi! Not to fight battles for Emperor! Straighten up and fly light or you fired!"
Yoshi responded with the opening quote from the Heike Monogatari, a 13th century samurai war tale:
"The proud ones do not last forever, but are like the dream of a spring night. Even the mighty will perish, just like dust before the wind!"
Somberly returning to his station, Yoshi attended to the next batch of hungry customers, including a young French sales girl who secretly saw herself as a member of the Royal French court...
