The World according to Lothar part V

Hello, my dear friends. My name is Lothar Von Rasmussen. I am a free thinking Neo-Kantist, BMW motorcycle racing enthusiast, Dominican cigar affeciando, connoisseur of Swedish women and French brandy, bidding salutations from Zurich, Switzerland, the cradle of refined taste and invention.
|From Zurich, with love. |
The summer solstice has come and went, as it always has, and always will, in the earth's ceaseless rhythm of seasonal change. Forever new, but forever the same.
Today, I present you with a rather contrary notion: I hope you have suffered lately.
Forgive me for my seeming gross insensitivity, and allow me to explain.
Another word for 'achievment' is pain. Another word for 'learning' is pain. Another word for 'excel' is pain. It is my observation that most of us would rather not entertain pain, and aggressively seek ways to numb and alleviate it, all the way up to, and including, suicide.
When we were children, our mothers and fathers attended to our emotional and material needs for us. (If we were fortunate enough to have parents who were pain tolerant themselves.) As we mature past adolescence, we must fend for ourselves, and wake to discover the emotional parental bridge suddenly washed away by the storm of relentless, savage realities of maturity. There are two ways to deal with this 'coming of pain'.
The first is the easy way out. To expect an unatural level of emotional and financial assistance from our aging family, or society, or, -the second-, to Come of Age, to hone and grind oneself through interminable suffering and self sacrifice into complete and total self-sufficieny.
Those who choose the first, remain in a constant state of immaturity all of their lives, and the greatest loss is not to their families or society, -but to themselves. They never sow the seeds of excellence and growth. They often use drugs and alcohol to mask inadequacy, further exacerbating their lamentful condition.
I implore you, my dear friends. To choose the other way out. Learn to love to suffer. When you see your own blood, revel in its triumphant drawing, and the step by step series of self-sacrifice and discipline that brought it to the surface. When you feel the weakest, you must push the hardest. When your are the most frightened, you must become the most brave. When you are the hungriest, you must fast. When you are lonely, you must satisfy your needs through a healthy social channel of peer interaction, rather than moldering in temporary toxic chemical relief.
Thus I close, and bid farewell, with a blessing for all of you; that you might feel pain and suffering on a daily basis, and reap the immeasurable reward of its bold metamorphosis and grand catharsis.
The moral is, sit back, have a sip of gently warmed Cognac and a smooth smoke of your favorite choice. Think of your greatest, most passionate hearts desire...
Now, use all the powers of your imagination to conjure the consequences if your wish is granted.
Be carefull what you wish for. The wish may come true.
