American Idol Heavily Edited, Pickled Paula Abdul To Blame
by Mark on 1/16/2007 (21)
Dog, please!
I think Am Idol producers realized that Paula's stumbling, awkward verbiage could threaten the show, so they heavily edited the auditions around her.
How clumsy and annoying was that?
It looked to me almost like an interview with an eye witness on a newscast, where cut room editors chop out crazed ramblings in search of a few brief, airable sound bites. Same here tonight.
It is pathetically obvious that the insertion of Jewel into the Am Idol judicial mix wasn't merely the addition of Super Star appeal. The concept behind Jewel's addition was to pave over, and drown out, the painfully ailing Abdul. One had to feel for her, indeed. Several times, Simon gently placed a hand on her shoulder to quiet her when she stumbled off, and it appeared his concern was heartfelt and genuine, same for Randy Jackson and Jewel as well.
Somethings gotta give, folks. Paula's condition has affected the fluidity of the show, Fox's only huge ratings magnet, and it only promises to get worse unless something changes. I'm afraid that Paula needs to go. I see no other way out.ispla
